Something for everyone

Encinitas

Encinitas, California is a hidden gem along the coast just twenty-five miles north of San Diego and ninety-five miles south of Los Angeles. The city is comprised of five distinct communities that joined together in 1986. Encinitas is known for its wide range of housing styles as well as its famous surf break, Swamis. New Encinitas, a more contemporary part of the city, is known for its modern, large tract houses, trendy shopping centers, and state of the art golf course. Olivenhain, which means “olive grove” in German, is a semi-rural area that is home to an active 4-H agricultural club and acres of open land for horses and pastures. Leucadia is a beachside neighborhood featuring unique shops, restaurants and art galleries. Cardiff-by-the-Sea, the southernmost community of Encinitas is characterized by single family homes along the hills of the coast.

Safety and cleanliness are top concerns to the City of Encinitas as it is committed to keeping neighborhoods safe and the community free from pollution. The city contracts with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department from the North Coastal Sheriff Station to keep the city safe and crime at a minimum. In 2008 the Environmental Commission was created to advise City Council on policies and projects that affect the local environment. The Environmental Commission has assisted in numerous projects including the Clean Water Program to protect and improve the quality of surface water in lagoons, creeks, and beaches in Encinitas.

Encinitas’ schools are managed by the Encinitas Union School District. All nine of the schools the District serves have been named California Distinguished Schools and of those nine, four are National Blue Ribbon Schools. Schools in Encinitas encourage innovative teaching and advanced programs that have led to high graduation rates in their high schools that range from 96%-99%.
